Inside the Hoch Theater at Lincoln Center, you can feast your eyes on this beautiful costume designed by Karinska for Jewels choreographed and made famous by George Balanchine.
All this beauty on Saturday, January 25th, even before the ballet itself began with music by Bach and Gershwin. The entire day was devoted to the beauty of ballet in honor of Balanchine's birthday. There were talks, workshops where audience members participated and, after the show, we were treated to a presentation of how ballerinas and danseurs are trained in the Balanchine method. How wonderful to witness Peter Martins showing dancers how to improve upon perfection.
We will have much to talk about in class this week. What is the Balanchine Technique? How can you recognize it?
