Take a look at my latest article about camping way out west in cowgirl country...by jennifer grambs.9/13/2014

Hello Ballerinas and Danseurs, Here I am in the Badlands of South Dakota, camping alongside the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation where the Lakota Sioux live and love their land. This is the tiny town of Interior, population about 80, down the road from our campground. It's a closely-knit community of lovely people; many buy their groceries here and then get their mail at the post office to my left. By the way, that's me...without my ballet gear, but wearing my favorite Stetson given to me by a rancher and his wife in Montana. This is a writing assignment I'm working on, and my husband is photographing. The article will appear soon on the KOA Kompass newsletter which is about the lives and times of people who love nature and camping. Which is what we are. The scenery is spectacular. The weather, autumn-like. I love seeing the cowboys and cowgirls with their own Stetsons and cowboy boots. But what about ballet? And my ballet slippers instead of cowboy boots? Ballet classes in NYC start October 7. Our date has changed, so please note this. Well, by now, all of my students back in NYC will have received my electronic card and announcement that our start-up date for beginning our ballet classes at our library location has been changed to October 7, 2pm, Tuesday. And continues on the following Tuesdays until Spring. The change is necessary to accommodate my writing gig here in the West. When I return, I will have many stories to share. And ballet exercises to get us back in the swing of things for the long winter ahead. But you can be sure that I'm doing my ballet routine here, right on the prairie as I step out of my tent each morning and greet the South Dakota big sky. I hope you are all doing a plie or two. But, if not, I'll have you back in ballet condition before you know it. Our class this year will have a waiting list to alleviate the overcrowding that happens because of the popularity of what we do. So everyone who signed the 3x5 cards I provided last term has a guaranteed spot. Additional students can sign up for our waiting list. I will accommodate as many as I can, but keeping the class size workable is my goal. So, check out this blog in the coming days to see where we are and what's going on out West. We are heading towards Montana now, having stopped in Nebraska for the famous Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island, Ne. What fun it was! Gotta go. No more internet service out here on the prairie. Love to all and keep dancing, Jennifer |
